Internet accessible by default???2K IP3M-941B (Black)

Post by SanMarzano »

Hi new to Amcrest IP cams and IP cams in general. I bought a 2k IP3M-941B (Black) from amazon and installed it via the mobile app. Everything worked fine. What I then noticed is that the app still connects to the camera when I am off my local network. I did not set up any amcrest cloud accounts so how does this happen? I assume there is some default service that the cam and my phone app is connecting to? I do not have unPNP on my router and the setup never asked me If I wanted the cam internet accessible so I am just concerned with security here

Thanks

You probably installed the camera with P2P, which means the camera and device contact the Amcrest P2P server to coordinate connection based on camera serial#, etc. That is the easiest thing to do for both local and remote access. If you are not comfortable with it, you could try other methods such as ddns and port forwarding, or just use the camera's IP address for local access. The camera should always have a user assigned ID/Password.

Thanks, Do you know how I delete the P2P information from the Amcrest side? In the mean time. I blocked access to the internet for the device and that stopped it. I plan on utilizing VPN to my home router to gain remote access

If you ever registered with amcrestview.com, go there and delete the camera. I also suggest doing a factory default reset at the camera, and then also making sure that P2P is disabled for the camera.
