Inconsistent Email Snapshot Attachment Observation

Post by grabczb »

I have 4, IP2M-841 cameras that have been in operation for about a year. I currently use a GMAIL account on all cameras for receiving snapshot attachments upon motion detection. Cameras all have the latest firmware with a snapshot setting of “5” per email.

The number of Email attachments sent during motion detection have always been inconsistent. The motion detection behavior just seemed random sending between 1 to 5 attachments per email. Changing anti-dither, thresholds, sensitivity, and email interval settings never seem to make much of a difference. I just learned to live with the behavior.

I recently changed the email username, password, and SMTP server to my local Internet Service Provider on ONE of my cameras. I did not make any other changes to the camera settings. The camera using my local ISP email setting has been sending EXACTLY 5 attachments per email. My other 3 cameras remain configured with my GMAIL account and send a random number of attachments per email.

Has anybody else encountered this type of behavior? Is there a Google setting that could be causing the random number of attachment issue? I haven’t yet configured all of my cameras with my local ISP email setting but that will be my next step.

Thanks...

If anyone is interested, changed all my cameras to my local ISP email SMTP server/username settings. All cameras are now attaching 5 snapshots per email. A little more troubleshooting on my part uncovered that I used "authentication=none" and Port 25 (from an Amcrest web page image) for my GMAIL SMTP settings. Apparently, this GMAIL setting does work but attaches a random number of pictures to each email.

Resetting my GMAIL SMTP settings to authentication=SSL and Port 465 now produces a consistent number of snapshots (5 in my case) per each email. Passing this info along since it might help someone who may have similar issues with attachments.

Thanks @grabczb for that info. While for me it sparks some intrigue, my situation is slightly different. I have a NVR5208E and have 5 total cameras configured, 4 are all the same model (IP4M-1028) all configured exactly the same in regards to alerts, and settings short of the obvious zone differences, but the latest new one I added which is the doorbell AD110 setup as much as I can similar to all the other cams, I get the email indicating MD, but no attachments at all from it. And as you mentioned, intermittent to inconsistent on the other cams but usually 4 or 5 snaps do come through for them. Very annoying for sure. I think there is an issue in compatibility of the AD110 and my NVR but I will have to reach out to tech support just to be sure I am not setting something just right.
