This motion detection feature is a joke. I've tried so many combinations on the settings and have basically gotten nowhere. I actually walk right in front of the camera and it doesn't even trigger it. This morning I walked in front of one camera, got in my car and backed out of the shot and it never picked it up. yet that same camera was going off like crazy a few hours earlier every time a car passed by.
I've got another camera that will pick up steam coming out of my dryer vent and start recording but completely ignores a person that walks right through the center of the screen shot! What good is this?? A burglar can walk right up, give me the finger and I'd never even know it.
This isn't just one or two cameras either. I have 4 set up around the outside of my garage that were all set exactly the same one morning. I took a walk right around my garage right in the view of these cameras and only 1 triggered.
Guess I'll have to record 24/7 if I heaven forbid there is a crime and I want to catch the bastard on camera!

Re: Hit or miss motion detection
What I would like to know is how on earth do I turn on the 24/7 endless recording- if at all possible for the cloud storage. I don't like the idea of this "motion" detection recording because it's so unreliable. I had the camera running today and, to it's credit, started recording once the postman walked in the front gate. However, these 30 second recording sprints aren't at all adequate because the camera stopped recording before he had left the property- and he was right in front of the camera!!!
Yes, I could set the thing up to record 24/7 from my PC, but I don't really want to leave my PC running all day and night- especially since it's not exactly energy efficient. Then there's the Micro SD card recording- sounds ok, but if somebody was going to steal the car from my drive, what's the stop them just removing the SD card from the camera? Anybody who is organised enough to pinch a car is probably going to have an idea of what security tech is on the market. It only takes one person to know the camera can record to an SD, and poof, there goes my footage and vehicle.
I'm in the same boat as you- and to be honest, feel a bit miss lead by the way this product is marketed. I don't remember seeing "recording is triggered by hit and miss motion detection" amongst Amcrest's "secure, reliable security" captions....

Re: Hit or miss motion detection
Hello,
For motion detection on these cameras does not offer 100% accuracy. The sensitivity and threshold settings helps to avoid false alarms to a great extend. But depending on the camera location , one has to play around with the settings a little bit to get the right combination.
Motion detection on the cloud will be only 30 seconds clips. You can record 24/7 on a schedule to an FTP sever but with Amcrest cloud its only 30 second clips.

Re: Hit or miss motion detection
I am glad I only bought one of these cameras and not a 3-pack.
The motion detection has proven to be unreliable and unpractical for me for real world use.
This is unfortunate since the video quality of this camera is so good for a $100 camera.
These issues could probably be fixed in software if Amcrest would invest the developer time and effort into it.
I will consider this a failed experiment and use this new Amcrest ProHD camera in another location where I do not need motion detection to work, and will buy newer Foscam models to replace my nearly 5 year old Foscam units which have been great units, just way outdated on video quality nowadays.

I am about to be in the same boat as you. Unfortunately I had fantastic success for the first two - three weeks and thus purchased about 10 cameras for various projects.
Re: Hit or miss motion detection
I know this is an old post, but I wanted to maybe help with this problem. I had the same problem with not recording on motion. I even call In twice to Amcrest and both times they connected to my PC. Still they did not find anything wrong. I found the problem to be settings that I had wrong. You have to make sure you have Record checked under motion enable tab/screen. Next to the record check box will be a delay setting with a default of 10. This is really should be changed to " Delay record stop" or better just "Record time". Its the time it records after motion is detected. Before leaving after changing the settings, make sure you hit save.
I was making adjustments to the motion detect area and hitting save and leaving. Then I would click on another tab on the left. It would not save my settings. I found out you have too also save on the main motion detect screen to write the new setting to the camera. I believe the first save just saves it localy and the next save under motion detect save the setting to the camera.
