Firmware Revision Level Discrepancies

I have two IP2M-841 cameras that are about 5 years old. One has firmware version 2.420.AC00.18.R, dated 8/3/2019. The other has 2.520.AC00.18.R, dated 6/21/2017. I went to the Amcrest web site and found that the latest firmware for this model is 2.420.AC00.18.R, dated 2/17/20. This seems inconsistent with the one camera that has 2.520.AC00.18.R installed. The camera that has 2.520.AC00.18.R installed used to connect to my phone using the Amcrest View Pro app, just recently it has stopped connecting with my phone. The other camera connects without a problem. I can use Chrome and the Amcrest Web View app on my desktop PC to view the cameras. Any thoughts?

Well sadly that is because at the 2017 FW they changed to the 2.520 out from the 2.420 format and then in the new update for 2019 they returned to the old format and only way now to know what Version your camera or NVR has is by the date code at the end. I personally find this problematic however it isn't about me lol.. Reason is because looking at FW within my NVR or other format maybe Ip config and things it don't show much of the FW other then the first part so I wouldn't know what one I have without looking at the camera data from WebUI.. However that is only issue I have... So yes what is important is that your not trying to install 841v3 software, or POE software on a non poe camera outside of that an 841 W - B or S is going to have same FW unless it is for a International model or POE..

Since the cameras have FW revision dates of 6/21/2017 and 8/3/2019 it appears to me that if I want the latest FW, then I should update both cameras to the FW dated 2/17/2020. Am I thinking correctly or am I missing something?

Yes if your camera has FW update to 2020 then that could be the way to go. If Amcrest is new and you have not seen some of the features that was in the older FW then new FW is good place to start.. However that said. There are some things that was released in normal FW that might not be in the Updated FW seeing it caused issues either Security Flaw or just maybe a difference in HD and Software and no way to make it work so it might have been Omitted. The General Feel and Use of the camera still works and with 2020 or 2019 FW Chrome is open for use along with Edge and others where before only IE or Chrome using Amcrest Chrome app..

Be it known I have since washed 90% of my cameras out of JS FW because even my new 2018 Released one that I got from Amcrest with the JS firmware installed they don't normally release them this way it was for testing the FW I found the camera from factory was personally not stable with that FW.. Out of the 8 841's I own I only have 2 that have new JS fW installed sadly only one of them is stable.. Both of them are 2015 841's one is just earlier model of 2015. One of them works without issue and the other has some Preset issues only half the time where the newer models with 2019 and 2020 FW installed had issues every time they were restarted (I Restart weekly)

So here is 2 Pictures one that will show the 2019 FW and one that is showing one of my cameras that has 009 version of FW and offering the one yours has because it is the last non JS stable version and when Network setup right and push button to look for new FW as long as you don't have the 011 installed like yours it will offer that one.. 2.420 predates the 2.520 so this picture the camera has 009 FW that is dated in 2016 and is 2.420 being offered the 011 and that one is the 2.520 version made in 2017..

This is one showing the difference in page layout over the older FW and some things that was removed it don't matter the image has not loaded this is how it looks even after view loads..
