Email Test Failure

Post by larcrow »

I recently purchased an Amcrest 3MP Wi-Fi Bullet Camera Model No IP3M-943W. I have the camera working OK but I cannot get it to accept my email setup. Regardless of whether I use my Google gmail account or my Time Warner account it always fails the test after I fill in the info and Save the data. I use the exact same setup info on these accounts that I use for sending and receiving mail using Outlook. I’ve tried both the Google default settings for smtp.gmail.com using 465, SSL and those that I currently use in Outlook which are 587, TLS. For Time Warner I’ve used mail.socal.rr.com with 25, none. All of them fail the Mail Test yet they work fine in Outlook. What am I missing?

Hello larcrow,

Try again with the GMail and make sure that you have completed all steps as suggested in the below tutorial.

Probably not something you may want to enable on a permanent basis, but what happens if you go into your Google account settings -> Sign-in & security -> Connected apps & sites -> Allow less secure apps=ON, then try the Amcrest Gmail test again?

I received my IPM721 and was frustrated about the email setup problem. The 15.R build 2016-09-08 was installed.
No way to get any email account to work (tried gmail.com, outlook.com, freenet.de, web.de). No problem with IP CAMs from other vendors. Found alwas the same suggestions and tutorials which are fulfilled.
Today I found the solution:
16.R build 2016-09-09 (one day after installed 15.R) with change-log "security improvements" allow to use gmail and outlook.com. So, if you have problems with email setup update to latest firmware.

Why this bad change log describtion and why the support of AMCREST did not point this out!

Next frustriation:
Just one picture instead of configured snapshotcount 1-3-5 is sent by mail. Will this be fixed in near future?

For other users having trouble with GMail. Here is what solved the issue:

1. Get a wired connection
2. Login with wired ip address
3. set SMTP settings
4. Test smtp (this should work)
Optional:
5. Remove the cable
6. Login with the wireless ip addres
7. Test smtp (this should still work)

I have two factor authentication set up for gmail, so I generated an app specific password.

This is NOT working for me. I am logged into my PC, not even on my phone. Have configured the NVR settings to use a new gmail account. I can send email to that account so I know it is working. I have hit the test button 10 times, retyped email and password. HELP?

Ah the emails are sent to my personal account. I misunderstood. I thought the new gmail account was where the emails would be. Now my email account is getting bombarded! Not good.
