does resetting back to defaults kill the wifi connection

Post by cismith54 »

On Monday we installed IP2M-842 and it appeared that everything was going smoothly until we started receiving too many motion detect emails. We made some changes to the area, sensitivity and threshold and elected to have them sent to the Amcrest Cloud. I have at this point I have power cycled the camera several times and allowed the camera to hook back up to the Amcrest Cloud after removing it there and adding it back. I thought it would work but then found events on the Amcrest View log stating that the camera was Offline. Not sure why. Does anyone know if I restore back to the defaults will it kill the wifi connection? I don't want to have to remove it from the post that it is attached to outside in order to get it hooked back up to my wifi. Any suggestions to this situation will be greatly appreciated.

I am by far an expert but my limited experience with this stuff so far would say that if you do a reset to factory it will most likely affect the WiFi connection. I guess some would depend on how your WiFi router reacts. Are you using DHCP or a static IP address scheme? Static IP would keep connections more stable and predictable.

Unfortunately it is on DHCP but I plan on setting it to Static once I figure out what I truly need to do to get this back to working correctly.

Hello cismith54,

It appears that you are getting those events listed there because you have enabled event for abnormality under set up > Event > Video detect > Abnormality. Since you are still able to access the camera and if its on wifi I think it is working properly. These events may be immediately after the camera powering off and before it reboots so it might not be a problem actually.

Well at this point, I did a hardwire reset as I had too many things happening that I was unable to get answers about. I started as if it was brand new with the hopes that all of my issues would be resolved. I was able to get everything back to where it was supposed to be with the hopes that we would now be getting emails as a result of Motion Detection. I tried to trigger an event that I knew should be recorded and received nothing, We are now thinking that because the camera is outside that the wifi range may be lacking. That and the fact the we have a metal roof (faraday cage) to go through could also be contributing to the situation. I have scheduled an installer to move my 2 pair bonded DSL to a different jack that would provide a better wifi link I would think. So my biggest question is this. If I can access the camera via the ip address on my local network and the view is just fine then access Amcrestcloud.com and view it Live there as well. Why am I not receiving an emails about Motion Detection? The areas are set-up correctly with the correct schedule. I just don't understand. We were told that the 4 hours that is free would still be usable as long as we deleted everything to allow it. Then I wonder why I receive the attachment. Too many questions with not enough answers. I also made the mistake of trying to use the OPnP/DDNS Remote Web Access Set-up for my spouse just to not be able to access the camera again via the IP because of the port # change. Back to starting over again tomorrow.

Hello cismith54 ,

Yes if its outside and far from router that could be the reason for the camera going offline often. As you said the metal block will only double this wifi issue.

For the cloud, the free account has a limit for streaming and it only allows 2 hrs of live view/month. You can see recordings for the last four hours only. If that is not working, please give us a call once you have the camera set up or ready to set up so that we can take a look at the settings for you.

On Thursday we moved the modem so it has a direct line with the metal roof out of the way. On Friday, I had a call with Tech Support. I was told by her that she had just been told that they were having issues with the Cloud. I had her check all of my settings via their remote login. The only item that had a potential of causing my problem was my threshold was a little high. We have now fixed that. I had my grandson try to trigger an event to be recorded knowing that it probably would not. I am almost to the point that I think the Cloud has not been working for several days, like almost a week. The tech is supposed to contact me when the Cloud is working again to see if I can trigger an event for recording.
