Details on how FTP works on AMDV108116

Post by Mystick »

Can someone explain how the FTP system works on the 16 ch ProHD Amcrest DVR?

What I'm specifically interested in is:

* configuring each camera with different ftp parameters (frequency to push ftp images to a server)
* Is there an ability to push a single image that is overwritten each time instead of creating a timestamp directory/filename?

* are all active cameras ftp'd at the same/central frequency? can this be changed per camera?

* on motion sensitive triggers, how does the ftp system work? does it push the single motion detected image, or push all images? I'm particularly interested in just pushing a motion detected cam image if it's triggered -- and is there any way to differentiate this file from the scheduled/regular ftp uploads?

Anybody have any information? Under what conditions does the system ftp files to a server? Is there any way to control the file naming? Can you enable them per-camera?

Most of the answers to your questions appear to be in the User Manual for the DVR.
https://support.amcrest.com/hc/en-us/ar ... ser-Manual
You could also test it with your intended FTP server or with Filezilla FTP server on your PC or with Windows FTP server.
Based on previous forum FTP threads, file naming can't be controlled in the camera. It could be done by sending the file to an intermediate FTP server on a processor where the file name is changed, and then the file is sent to your intended FTP server. That would probably require some programming to automate it.

Some items I can't find in the manual...

Can the periodic ftp be set on a per-camera/channel basis? If so, how?

I see this item:

"Alarm Upload: This checkbox allows the user to enable the system to upload alarm information when motion triggered/video loss/etc."

Is the "alarm upload" the ftp enable function? It's unclear.

Go to page 121 Section 4.10.5.1.2 Snapshot
See the Note on page 122 about going to section 4.10.1.2.2 Snapshot (page 69) I think that answers your periodic snapshot/channel question.
The FTP "interval" specified in the FTP Section means how often an image CAN be sent, not when it will be sent. It's probably used to try and prevent overloads. Overloads may cause some FTP images to not be sent.
See ALL the sections referenced in the Note mentioned above.

I believe the "alarm upload" is to the Alarm Center server if you have one.

The manual seems quite detailed when compared to many other Amcrest manuals. To know if everything works as specified, you may just have to wait and see. That's all I've got. Good luck!

I've read through the manual and it's confusing and ambiguous in this respect.

I need some clarification.

When FTP is enabled, it appears to do two different things.

It will upload JPG files that are supposedly of motion or "regular"/periodic still images.

But it also uploads these massive .DAV files. I have no idea what those are? I would like to disable the upload of the .DAV files. I don't see how or what they are?
