dead WIFI camera?

Post by padmaster »

I have a IP2M-851W WIFI camera that I am unable to connect to. The camera has worked for several years but after a storm and power outage, the camera no longer works. I have taken the camera down and have it on my desk near the NVR.

If I connect the camera to the router with ethernet cable, and using the AC adapter, I get the red power LED indictor, but I cannot connect to the camera by adding device thru the phone app. I scanned the code on the back of the camera but it just tells me there was a problem with WIFI. (yes, I have the phone WIFI turned on)

If I connect the camera directly to the NVR with ethernet cable, I get no power LED indicator and the NVR does not recognize the camera.
Camera should behave as a normal POE camera connected this way right?

Is this camera dead?

Yes in general if you have a camera that is powered on by ext power and you connect to the back of a POE NVR like your trying to connect a POE camera then the NVR will see the Camera and give it a IP address even if it was already setup with one static. It won't power the camera over that port unless it is a POE camera..

So then the question is when you plug in your cable to a network port does the light for the port show it is active or is there nothing? If your camera was struck or if it was even within a set area of the strike the camera could be in need of repair. However if it is the camera I am thinking as really numbers are confusing at times lol seeing my 850 is a POE PTZ camera and 853 is also but I think the 851 was a dome camera that looks like the 751 just odd shape? For the cost of repair would out cost the cost of a new camera.

I would look for a Reset button in side the body or on cable either way if it has one I would try to reset the camera and see if it comes back to life before replacement..

However if there is no power inside dome I would double check that power supply is still good (Change out to new ps) also to make sure..

OK, so the camera does work.

I connected the camera to the router with ethernet cable and with the AC adapter for power.
I added device on my phone, scanned the code on back of camera and the camera was added.
I can see video from the camera.

So then I disconnect the ethernet cable and search for the camera in the NVR setup.
It finds the camera and I add it to the devices and the status is green.
But then I get a series of beeps and the status goes red.

I'm starting to think maybe the WIFI circuit in the camera is bad.
It works fine as long as I have the ethernet cable connected but will not connect wireless.
Also, when I disconnect the ethernet cable, the LED on the camera blinks green slowly for about 2 minutes,
then flashes once red, then goes back to blinking green....and repeats this infinitely.

Plug in cable again, log in camera, go to webui for camera, setup, network then go to WiFi make sure its enabled then do a search if connected don't come up if it does come up then remove cable and see if it stays connected.

If don't show connected then search for you wifi click it and connect adding the ssid password. Once you see connected remove cable and see if it works on wifi
