Channel overlay intermittent on IP4M-1026

Post by patgreen »

I have a number of Amcrest cameras including two IP4M-1026's. I use the channel overlay feature to display the name I have given the cameras. I mainly access the camera by requesting a snapshot and have noticed that the channel overlay is only displayed in the snapshot if I am also logged on watching video. I just read a post from someone named johnrellis from June 2019 who was having the same problem with his IP8M-2496e camera. I also have IP8M-2496's and had the same problem with them until I upgraded the firmware to a 10-24-2019 release. Unfortunately, the latest firmware for the IP4M-1026 (dated 6-2-2018) still has the problem.

Any chance there is a newer firmware release on the way? If not, is there any work-around.

Thanks,
Pat

You didn't say when and how you take a snapshot and where it's stored. If using camera interval snapshots or motion detect snapshots, it works fine on 1026 with overlay when stored on SD card. Don't know about FTP or NAS.

I write my own software and just use a TCP/IP message to request the snapshot.
This is the request: http://192.168.1.192/cgi-bin/snapshot.cgi? The camera responds with a jpeg which I display and / or store on my PC.

Update: I received another IP4M-1026 today and set it up just like my first two. I believe the new one has the exact same firmware the first two, but it doesn't have the problem. Either that means I only think I set it up the same way or the order of changing things matters. I am out of time for today, but I will investigate more tomorrow.

Final Update: My problem has been solved, but the cause is still a mystery. All three IP4M-1026 cameras have the same firmware. I verified all the settings are identical except their IP address and channel title setting. Two of them stop displaying the channel title in snapshots after I log off, but the third continues to show it correctly in snapshots. To fix it, I exported the third cameras config and then restored it to the first and second cameras. I then changed the channel title to the correct value for cameras 1 and 2 and all is good.

Interesting... While I don't know how you had these set up or what you did to start out with...

I wonder if a Software Reset was ever done at the WebUI level or if you did a Hardware reset at camera level when you had this issue before? Then installed and tried things without Importing settings back?

Meaning had you tried to Reset the camera and make adjustments for a camera without first Importing the settings and still had the issue?

Because here is what I think might have happened... If you were Resetting the camera and then Importing a Bad File back into the camera your camera would be just like it was before Bad...

Now you have taking a Good camera that was from Amcrest or Where ever you bought if was from 3rd party, They might have had FW installed and did the Reset of the Camera... Then you got the Camera Fresh no Corrupt data.. Then taking the good data export it form that camera and import into the other cameras with the Corrupt export?

So I don't know this is just my guess... There is one of the things that can happen when import and export of settings happen... I am going to guess that if you still had the Old exported settings from before if you were to Import them back into the camera your Problem would be back???
Be Safe.

All good points, but I had never used the export/import settings feature before the 23rd when I used it to solve the problem. So, I have no way to test your theory. I never did any resets either, but in the future I might do that when a new camera arrives just be sure no one changed anything along the way.
