Cant get 2M-842 to format properly + cameras falling off of the network in Amcrest Pro

Post by Hotrod53 »

So I had a Windows 10 update come out, it screwed all 3 of my cameras as it always seems to do. Usually after I run the update and reboot the server, the cameras come back...but not this time! I have now formatted 2 of 3 cameras and those two now seem to be working again, for now .... but I'll get to that. Camera #3.... I formatted by shorting the format wires together for 30 seconds, in return the admin password gets blown out therefore confirming that its doing something. At this point I'm connected directly to my router with a CAT5 cable, the camera bounces back that he is now wired and address #84. I go into config and tell it that its now wireless, static, and address 150 and hit save. I disconnect the ethernet cable and within a minute, the camera is offline. I do a search using Amcrest config, and its gone! I plug the ethernet back in, go to config, now I'm wired and address 84 again somehow! If I switch it back to wireless and static, my address 150 is still in there, for some reason I just can't make the switchover stick.

I've formatted this camera at least a half dozen times, each time it becomes wired and address #84, each time the password gets blown out as it should, and I have to change the admin password again..... frustrating!

That's the first issue...… As I said, I have 3 cameras. Two have been formatted and working great using Amcrest Pro. I then steal the power supply from camera #1 (address #37) because I need it to temporarily power camera #3 to format it. So that being said... camera #2 (address 100) is still online and remains untouched. As I go through and try to format camera #3, I notice that Amcrest config is no longer finding the camera #2 on the network, why, I have no idea. When I finally give up on camera #3 for the evening, I realize that camera #2 (address 100) can't be seen in Amcrest view anymore, and mind you, it hasn't been touched. I can however go to the IP address and it comes right up and I can see the image. So Amcrest Pro can't see it, it is on the network, and I can go directly to it and see it.... I'm perplexed!

Can the fact that camera #1 (address #37) is being looked for in Amcrest Pro but its essentially dead because I have taken the power supply have anything to do with this situation? Is there a network token looking for an IP address that is getting hung up? The camera that I took offline is address #37, the next camera is address #100 which is the one still online, and the next camera that I'm trying to put on will be address #150. Does having these IP address spaced out like I do cause any issue? I'm assuming not but maybe I'm missing something.

On top of all of this, I'm using Blue Iris 5 but I need to get Amcrest Pro working properly before I attempt to get that working properly. Sometimes the BI5 remote works great, other times the remote can't find my remote IP.

Sorry I am not sure how things are setup right now...

So here is something that I wonder if you have done or not!

First when you setup your camera and then switch to your Wifi profile to setup the static IP.. Did you go to the next step and setup Wifi under the Wifi Tab? IF you didn't you will need to make sure you tell the camera what SSID you want it to connect to and the Password for the Router... Once you do this you will see that your camera has connected to the router... Then you can take the Cable out of the camera and it should switch over to your Wifi IP that you setup...

Also the cameras don't care what IP you put them in as long as they are within your IP range.. Like some Routers are setup to only use a few IP addresses for Wifi because they are lacking memory and or CPU and might be only able to handle 25 or 99 IP addresses.. So they would let you setup most times 100 - 199 however others like the ones I use I can use any of the IP from 2 to 254 and mine don't care if I have them set 75 120 155 199 220 or any combo within my Range.. Easy way is to just look at the router config screen under Network or Intranet or LAN Ip and it should offer info about what your Range is... Like one of my High Power Outdoor units I can do any IP within my Range. However I have it setup to only use the Upper level range from 240 to 254 and that keeps it so I don't have anyone trying to gain access outside my network though that Router seeing I don't watch its network traffic much and leaves a couple open for when I am on my Back 40 to still have access to my Network and testing my connection from town.. However I don't use it in town right now because when I turn up the power of the Router I seem to over shoot my own IP cameras that I have connected to it lol. So for now I have changed it from 6 miles to .6 of a mile and everything connected on my property is working better then when I turn up the power..

You know what..... that's an excellent suggestion, one that I've overlooked! If I'm formatting and then setting up wireless and giving it a static IP, how does it know what network SSID to use...duh! Since I'm formatting, surely it's blowing that out. There are multiple SSIDs in range but I'm thinking without a password, maybe it defaults right back to wired if I don't manually log onto one of them. I'll give that a try tonight.

YOU SIR ARE A LIFESAVER!!!! Of all of the obvious and dumb things that I could have overlooked. You were EXACTLY right! When formatting the camera, it lost track of what SSID to use and would default back to wired. I spent literally a few nights off and on trying to figure out what was going on...I owe you a beer!

I've now got all 3 of my cameras up and running....while not without issue, they are working. Turns out that my wireless extender went whacky to, that's why the other cameras and my WIFI plugs went out, I had no idea they were out.

SO....if I can resolve this last issue, I'll be golden. When inside my WIFI, I see all 3 cameras. When outside of my network, I only see 1/3. If I use the Blue Iris app, I can see all 3. The problem with that is the Blue Iris app doesn't always work. Sometimes the TACIT app can't find my static IP, other times it finds it no problem.

I've compared every setting that I could find of the working camera VS the non remote working camera, I see absolutely no difference in setup. They all have equal signal strength, they're all on the same WIFI network. I've also set the main stream to 30fps and #6 high quality, the sub stream is 30fps and #1 low quality video.

You will need to look at your Settings in your Phone app to tell how they are set.. I am going to guess that your 1 camera is setup with P2P and the other 2 are setup with IP and because they are setup under IP setup there is no way without Port Forwarding and having some other hardware config things playing to get your camera and outside devices working.. P2P is what you want..

Here is a couple of pictures from my APP so show what I am talking about...

If you look at one it will not have access to the Web because I have it setup for IP The other one on my NVR I have it setup for P2P and can't be seen outside my Network...

REVO2...… unbelievable!!!!! After having these cameras for 4 years, I can finally see all 3 cameras remotely thanks to your help!

You were exactly right, setting up for P2P, and the one that I could see was accidently already set up that way, I can now see them all. So with 3 cameras, I currently have 6 entries into my CFG database and I'm thinking I can remove 3. Now that I have both P2P and IP setup in the database, I'm thinking I can remove the IP one, correct? I manually logged out of it and the remote and local both seemed to still work.

Not sure I understand.. When I setup cameras in the app it will not let me do it hummm maybe because it knows it is the same one because I use P2P and it sees the SN and knows they are the same.. SO I am going to guess that yes if you have some setup with IP and some setup with P2P you can remove the IP ones and when you are working in your home or outside your home the P2P ones will work just as expected...

Glad I could help and to hear that you have things working...

I actually found what you did...if you already have that AMC.... serial defined as P2P, it won't let you do another one. You can however have the same camera defined as P2P and by its IP address.

It was my misunderstanding that whether you configured using an IP, used the scan app, or configured as P2P that the end result was exactly the same. Obviously now I know its not.

My cameras also seem to be a lot faster retrieving video and a lot more stable. I'm getting very few false triggers now...other than the annoying trigger when the IR lights come on and when they go off, and when a pesky spider makes a web across the lens.
