I just purchased the IP2M-841B primarily to access the camera remotely. After some struggling, I got everything working over the wifi in my home, then went to the next step to set the camera up for remote access so I can monitor from a computer at another location.
In that process, it was necessary to download a plug-in (P2PSurveillance...exe). The attempt resulted in a message, "The signature of this program is corrupt or invalid." Norton won't allow the download; it's flagged as unsafe and deleted. Without the plug-in, I can't access remotely. This is the UPnP/DDNS remote web access setup.
Also during the process, it was necessary select QUICK DDNS from a dropdown. The Quick DDNS domain is part of the URL for accessing remotely (once I have the plug-in, I guess). Norton flags the website as unsafe, and further checking shows it's from China, and that there is one computer threat, namely a virus.
I phoned tech support today and was told I need the plug-in for remote viewing, and the only option available to me is to disable Norton and download the plug-in.
At this point I'm very frustrated. The camera itself is great but the software has been a nightmare from the moment I installed it, and went from bad to worse. And I can't even use the camera as intended.
Has anyone else had issues with the plug-in? Is there another option (different software perhaps) that would operate the camera but is easier to install and use for remote access, and virus free?

Yep, they really need to fix the digital certificate for their files. You don't need quick ddns nor UPnP to access the cam remotely via AmcrestView.com. But you do still need that plug-in. I don't have Symantec A/V, but downloading the file via Internet Explorer it does get flagged and you have to jump through hoops to install it. With IE11, basically, after downloading, you have to go to "view downloads" (protection won't let you run the file) and then in the download view where it shows as unsafe you can right-click on it and say "run anyway". and it will install. I'm comfortable enough knowing that they just have a bad certificate, but that is not acceptable from any company that strives to be reputable. In your case, you may have to temporarily disable your A/V to get it installed.
This isn't related to your issue (because you DON'T need quickddns) but I struggle with Norton blocking the quickddns.com domain. If you understand what it is, its just a dns service, not an actual domain. So anyone can theoretically use it to register a bad/malicious site. But you'd only be accessing the domain YOU created. If you can't trust yourself, who can you trust? Lol. Anyway, seems strange for an A/V to block that entire domain. Its little different than the many other dynamic dns domains out there (and there are a lot of them).
Anyway, good luck! As I posted in the general forum, I'm truly impressed with the AmcrestView P2P solution for how easy it is to provide web access without having to fiddle with UPnP, port forwarding, ddns, etc... its a great service if they'd just fix a couple glaring bugs/issues.

Re: Can't download plug-in; virus on quickddns domain
Thank you so much! It's good to know I didn't need quick ddns or UPnP after all, and that I only had to deal with the plug-in issue. I didn't realize I could just right-click for an option to download it anyway. The certificate didn't worry me too much because I'm familiar with that on a shared server, but the virus warning was concerning. Since that was the ddns site, it doesn't matter anyway now. I do agree it's not acceptable from a company that should project itself as reputable. Hopefully Amcrest will get its act together in the near future.
Anyway, after all that and finally accessing AmcrestView.com, all I get there is a blank window. So I'll have to find out what could be wrong there. Perhaps I changed something in the settings when I initially followed the UPnP/DDNS remote web access and port forwarding setup instructions. I thought I put things back to where they were, but I might have missed something.
Thanks again for your help. At least I'm where I need to be now, and can get it working soon.
