I have three Amcrest IP2M-841 wi-fi cameras monitoring areas of my yard. Do they use bandwidth if I'm not viewing them on my computer through the app? I noticed I used a lot of bandwidth this month already, and suspect it was because I had the camera views open on my computer through the app for a significant amount of time.
I just want to be sure I'm not using up bandwidth now that I've closed those views.
Thanks.
Bandwidth Usage?
Re: Bandwidth Usage?
No, you should not be using bandwidth with camera views off.
Re: Bandwidth Usage?
I hesitate to gainsay comments made by others but surely it depends on how the cameras are configured. If they are uploading to 'the cloud' then bandwidth is being used irrespective of whether it is being viewed or not. Personally speaking I have mine configured so that they have no connection whatsoever to the internet and accept that this restricts their value to some extent. They use zero bandwidth on my WAN connection.

Re: Bandwidth Usage?
longedge, thanks for posting. I assumed from the original post that the concern was use of wifi band width on the router caused by leaving the viewers on all the time on a LAN computer. If motion detect videos were being sent out of the camera, or playback was being done on the computer from the camera SD card, then other wifi band width would be used.
