AT THE END OF MY ROPE

Post by pdxrealtor »

I bought this system after ripping out a system that was giving me nothing but problems. I have 100s of feet of wire I had to re-fish.

SO... here I am. Nothing but problems. I ask - what are the settings for sensitivity and threshold in the motion detection setup screen that are best suited for typical outside conditions. Shadows, brightness changes, headlights, moving low level branches, etc.

This is aimed at Amcrest tech support. I don't want any BS answer like 'you'll have to play with the settings' or whatever else. Give me answers or tell me it won't work so I can return this POS.

I've been playing with those settings for a week. NOTHING, no combination of the two, allow for motion detection of people without false alarming every three minutes for shadows and light changes.

Hello pdxrealtor,

Unfortunately the settings that works at one place might not work effectively in another. Have you tried keeping the sensitivity at 60 and threshold around 25. Please give that a try.

It seems like I have tried everything.

How does the motion detection screen work? If I enable motion detection, but there is no 'region' color selection is the motion detection still working?

Hello,

If no region is colored, it mean that detection is not active. You should have at least one area colored.

Was having same issue where I would set up regions but get bombarded with emails every time a vehicle drove past... Two days later I just realised there's two separate places I needed to hit save for the updated threshold and sensitivity to take effect. Simple solution that I can't believe I missed.

In the screen where you colour the pixels, adjust the settings and then hit save. Close out this screen back to the visual alert screen (we're you can adjust the dither) and there's a second save button at the bottom. I was missing this second save button so my threshold changes were not actually updated and saved... 60 emails an hour previously received from cars driving by is now down to the proper 2-3 as someone approaches the front door.

Hopefully this helps.

Getting false trips based on the littlest of light changes... Talking sun going down changes. No specific shadows.

Also, sun coming up. Also, headlights.

At this point I'm asking you for a 'play by play' approach to tweaking this camera. Hopefully I can apply what I learn to the other EIGHT cameras on my property.

Not happy at all.

So.... please advise what direction to go next, or ask the questions you need to ask to properly advise me.

Sens. 60, threshold 25 current settings.

Hello pdxrealtor,

It appears you have already tried every possible steps to no avail. I would say try increasing the threshold to around 40 to see how it goes. Also, it can be that the location of the camera is such that the false alarms cannot be eliminated completely as the camera detects motion based on pixel changes so there is some limitation to that technology. There are cameras that can detect motion from body heat etc but this one does not work that way and is not 100% accurate.

The lower the threshold the easier the trigger, correct?
