Android app

Post by Nick1234 »

Has anyone else had issues with the Android app? It previously worked, but then just stopped letting me connect. I can search for and add the camera by serial number, and it confirms it has found it, but won't then connect for live view or playback.

I have the same camera mapped to my iPad, the software on my Mac, and the web application. All of these work for live view and playback.

The camera is running the latest firmware, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my android.

Hello Nick1234,

Please login to the camera web interface from PC and go to setup > Camera > Video and ensure the substream is enabled. This if not enabled will not work on smartphones.

I have the substream enabled and I still cannot use the Android app. It times out when I try and log in. This worked in the past, but an update to the app has somehow broken things. Since the camera cannot be viewed by either the Android app or my browsers anymore, I think the best thing I can do now is to return them - they are completely useless to me now. This is absolutely disgusting - I used to be happy with these cameras, and told others about them. No longer.

I also have Android phones and am having the same issue. I purchased and installed my cameras a month ago. It says log in timeout when I try to connect and view from smartphone or my 2017 dell xps laptop with window 10. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

I have the substream enabled, and as stated in the original post it works fine using the app on an iPhone and iPad. I am based in the UK and so can't give you a call.
It also used to work fine on the android, and then just randomly stopped with no change to settings or software

Nick1234 & Melvin:

I have 5 of these cameras and 1 has a very similar problem. The problem started about the same time as Nick's, in mid-March. It can no longer be accessed by my android smartphone nor my wife's. The others continue to be accessible via phone. Similar to Nick I can sometimes access that camera via an android tablet. Smartphone is using V3.41.0209 , tablet V3.31.0100.

Perhaps the issue is firmware related but if so why can I access all other cameras but not the one? I have contacted support twice (in the same day) because the recalcitrant camera had other issues of not connecting to the router after working fine for 10 weeks. I suspect the camera has a malfunction but Support doesn't see it that way. Today the issue has progressed to where it no longer records events. On the upside, I've redone the IP and port forwarding so the connection is improved but without recording events the camera is near useless.

Melvin: I share this on Nick's original posting in support of another camera that mysteriously stopped working the way it was in mid-March. It's not been the same since. As for the camera's failure to record events I guess I need to call Support again.

Posting an update to yesterday. I noticed that Amcrest View web app failed to display the Live image for the affected camera but would allow access to Playback. On the Live screen I clicked the S located to the right of the camera name to toggle to Main and an image appeared. Thanks to the others who posted that the problem is probably that Substream is not enabled. Sure enough, that was my problem and enabling it allowed the smartphone to connect as well as Web View app.

It is still a mystery to me how a camera worked great for 2.5 months then suddenly stopped, while other cameras continued to function properly. Couple that with why an android tablet would connect but not smartphones. How the setting got unchecked is unknown, perhaps as a result of a hard reset or something unusual happening as a result of numerous unpluggings while address the connection problem. Bottom line, camera is working again.

New to Amcrest. Happy with two bullet and one dome cameras that I installed yesterday with their DVR. Latest firmware for all cameras. Stumped on why I only got live view for the last camera that I added to the app. Combing through this thread, I re-enabled the substream/extra video stream. I thought it was useless. I Still had an issue with one of the cameras with live view.

Then at the suggestion of a friend, I installed a free wifi analyzer app on my phone and changed my 2.4 GHz channel to one that was not crowded. In my home, the crowded channels were 1, 6, and 11. I had manually set mine to 11 initially. But changed it to 3 and I have all my cameras in the android app. And my cameras now connect in an instant, like I would expect it should. Hope this helps someone whose camera suddenly times out logging in or cannot connect to the camera in live view but can still view event recordings like I did.
