2MP Sensor Used in 3-5MP Cameras?

Post by Morstein »

The Amcrest site says all of the outdoor bullet cameras I've been looking at use the Sony IMX322 image sensor. Everything I can find states the IMX322 is a 2MP sensor, yet Amcrest say's that the sensor used in 3-5MP cams.

Am I wrong the IMX322 is 2MP? If it is 2MP, how is it being used in 3-5MP cameras, interpolation?

I asked Amcrest this question yesterday, but they have yet to reply. I want to make sure I know what I'm getting when I buy cameras. Thanks to all for helping me understand this.

I never looked into that. I'm also curious to hear what others have to say. I do notice that when I zoom on the 5MP camera footage (set to max resolution of 2592x1944), the image doesn't look that much different than when i zoom on the 1080p cameras (set to max resolution of 1920x1080). I expected the 5MP footage to retain more details. Maybe I'm going blind early.... ;) :geek:

I was able to find this.

On hardware perspective, your camera’s video capturing capability was determined by two main factors; SoC – core processor handle image processing and encoding, CMOS image sensor – capturing raw image. In the market, we can find 2-megapixel IP cameras utilize Hisilicon Hi3516C SoC and incorporate IMX323 or IMX322 CMOS image sensors. Which one solution is better? By coincidence, we have cameras adopted both different solutions, here we can compare them.

Thanks, but this does not address my question. I want to know how Amcrest makes a 5MP camera using a 2MP sensor.

Hello Morstein,

The sensor used in our 5 MP cameras is OS05 (IP5M-1173E and IP5M-1176E). Only the two PM ones have IMX323.

Melvin,

Thanks very much for the reply. Will you please tell me what sensors are used in your IP3M-954E and IP4M (1024E/1026E/1054E) cameras?

Thanks,

Joe

Melvin, can you or someone else at Amcrest provide an updated list of the model -> image sensor -> chipset?

I am very interested in the IMX290 image sensor for its low light capabilities, but am having trouble getting information out of the sales folks on the chat on your web site.

They just tell me "the model is SARVIS" - which of course as we know is not a model but just states that the sensor meets certain requirements to be labeled a "SARVIS" sensor.

Even more concerning is that the information on the site seems to contradict what Melvin put above:
https://amcrest.com/amcrest-prohd-1920p ... 854ew.html

Above it was noted that the image sensor in the IP2M-854E is the IMX290 but The description of the IP2M-854EW says this - I assume the "W" means white?
Featuring the latest Sony IMX322 progressive scanning image sensor and the Ambarella S2Lm chipset, the Amcrest UltraHD camera soaks in the entire scene, dynamically painting all the vivid colors and rich imagery, pixel by pixel, onto your computer screen or smartphone in full 1920x1080P resolution at 30 frames per second (FPS). No need to strain your eyes, lean in close, or play the guessing game when you have this level of detail.
Can someone from Amcrest confirm if Melvin or the web site description of the IP2M-854EW is accurate?
