Intro and Goodbye

Post by t84a »

Probably the shortest relationship ever. I established a dealer account last week and I purchased an Amcrest to give one a try to compare to the Foscam products I offer to my customers along with more expensive brands. I received it, downloaded the Android App and the Amcrest IP tool. That's about all that could be done. It was definitely getting an IP address as I could see one assigned to it. It would randomly show up in the IP Configuration tool but when I tried to log in, I got "Connection Failed." App basically did nothing. It wouldn't scan the QR code and when I manually entered the SN it failed. I'm returning it. No thanks. The problems with Foscam are manageable, at least. Good luck.

Hello t84a ,

Sorry to hear about your experience. I believe it could have been something simple. Please contact our technical support if you still have the camera with you.

Thanks Melvin. I already returned it. It was definitely defective as it wouldn't hold an IP address and kept resetting. Also, it wouldn't let me access it directly using a browser, which is another negative. One of the biggest positives with Foscam was the ease of setting them up. Thanks again.

I own both Foscam (3 cameras) and Amcrest (7 cameras). I think you are making a mistake by judging Amcrest based on one device. The Amcrest are no more difficult to setup than the Foscam. I have not tried updating the Amcrest firmware yet, but the Foscam process for just figuring out what you need to DL and install and in what order is one of the reasons I left Foscam. Its akin to playing Calvinball. They also besieged me with junk mail. Maybe Amcrest will too, dunno yet.

Thanks. Maybe I'll try another one. I have dozens of trouble-free Foscams deployed around the US. I was turned off by the 9821. That's definitely a black eye for them. If I get another Amcrest, I'll report back.
