2 AD410's with 2 mechanical chimes

Post by dbs179 »

Hi all,

I'm putting an AD410 on both my front and rear doors. My rear door is in the basement, so I've got mechanical chimes in both the first floor and basement. I don't care if the chime is different for either door, it currently is the same. Both chimes ring if either door bell is pressed.

Can I do that with the AD410 and if so what would the wiring look like? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello and Welcome to the Forum

As per Amcrest Manual or box or where ever it was I read it, 1 Doorbell camera, 1 Chime.

In theory the answer is yes However the issue is that it isn't something that is going to be 2 doorbell cameras and your 2 chimes. Because of the way the system is built and the way the Doorbell power supplies are built doing 2 doorbell cameras even to 1 chime is (could be) damaging to the 1 doorbell that isn't in the being pressed at the time when going to same connection point

For a normal doorbell button there is nothing going on when 1 button is pushed because in a sense the second button is a Open Circuit. However with the doorbell cameras that isn't the case. When the one button is pressed the power isn't only going to the Chime unit (Noise Maker) it is also still feeding the second camera and if ( I said IF) the Transformer goes into a Over or under Voltage moment that will also feed the second camera same thing and damage the camera.

So how does one cure this. Well it is best to use a Relay. While relay may sound hard it really isn't. The hardest part is understanding what a Relay is and how they work. Once someone has that understanding putting one to make something like this work will be easy to do.. Main issue is that really 2 power supplies should be used for this method of setting up your system. Main reason is that if we just used the current power supply it will or could still cause the same issue over over/under voltage and or current and damage something by using 2 power supplies it will isolate the chimes power from the doorbells power..

Thanks for the input, I understand relays and electronic circuits pretty well, but what I'm unsure of is the AD410. Since it doesn't have dry contacts that activate when it is pushed, I'm not quite sure what the only two contacts on the unit do. I guess I could use home assistant to trigger a relay when the button is pushed and remove the AD410's from the chime circuit completely.

So yes the 2 contacts on the back of the doorbell cameras are for power. However there is also a Relay in the camera that when the doorbell button is pressed causes the 2 contact to act like Dry Contacts. AKA (Wet Contacts) Seeing you have good idea of such things you will understand what I am referring to.

For others that don't know the Difference between Dry and Wet. Dry contact is like the normal Doorbell switch or a Relay contact that isn't also powering the Device. Wet contact is when the Relay of the Circuit is the same power source as the driving power for the device of the Contact.

So there is a good understanding of the AD110 and AD410 there is a Electronic Relay in the unit with 2 large Caps (To store up voltage) and 1 Cap in the AD410 again to keep like a small storage for voltage while the Relay in the unit causes a Closed Circuit (Short) just like someone pressing the doorbell button on a home without a camera.. That is timed by the camera circuit and will be 3 to 10 seconds if a Doorbell (Chime) is in place. once that time is up it will release the relay contacts and return being powered while charging the Cap back up from being used while in the send power to doorbell (chime) mode..

Revo,

Thanks for the information. I appreciate it and yes wet contacts makes total sense!
