IP3M-943 Frequently logging into FTP

Hello,
I have a number of IP3M-943 cameras connected to a server via FTP. According to the server's logs the cameras are connecting via FTP every 10 seconds and are neither uploading nor downloading anything.
After doing a bit more digging through the logs I found that one of the cameras is actually uploading an updated cam_settings.conf file every 1-2 minutes. Is this normal?
1. Why are the cameras doing this?
2. Is there a setting to prevent this log in/out or increase the time between checks?
3. If I switch the cameras to NAS instead of FTP will they still perform these checks?
