Hey all,

I set up my NVR in an upstairs closet, with a UPS in yet another room for a variety or reasons that are not important to the question.
My question is that I want the NVR located where it is. BUT, my wife likes the idea of having a second monitor downstairs with the 4 feeds displayed at all times (especially when I am travelling).

So my questions are what do you all recommend? Are there ways to transmit what is essentially on the DVI output of the NVR to another monitor in another room in the house (downstairs)?
Or am I overthinking this, and should I try to repurpose an old laptop (with an old monitor) and set that up?
I have very poor luck with Android apps playing nice with my NVR (at least outside my network)...and I will have another post asking questions about that shortly...

At least this should be an easy question...with multiple solutions...

Not sure if the second monitor will work properly as VGA at longer distances might not get proper video. What is easy to do is to use a computer connected to the same router (wired or wireless) and access the web UI of the NVR or use Amcrest Surveillance Pro for 4 screen preview and play back. Also the monitor of laptop cannot be used as standalone monitor.

I have a similar situation where I have the NVR racked in the basement but want the video viewable in different parts of our house (e.g. dashboard on a monitor in the kitchen connected to a RPi, on TVs, etc.)

The NVR4108 requires a browser plugin to work, which starts to really limit what you can do. I can't have lightweight solution where a headless Raspberry Pi connected to a monitor displays browser content. You basically need an old PC hooked up.

So what I've done is take all of the RTSP streams of the cameras and run them through a Linux server running Zoneminder. Zoneminder provides an MJPEG stream that can be plugged into an <IMG> tag on a web page. Now I can create simple dashboard HTTP server to show all of the cameras.

Challenges are 1) requires yet another device and 2) there's a 3-5 second lag to reprocess streams.

Melvin - Why can't the NVR4108 simply provide an MJPEG API URL like the Foscam/Amcrest cameras do?
