I was having the same issue with gmail, then I enable "Less Secure Apps" as johnnyv suggested. That seemed to fix it but this seems like a bad option. I don't really want my gmail being less secure.

I installed the 720 system this weekend. Email notification absolutely will not work. I created a new gmail account and followed the instructions to the T. When I hit "test" I get a mail error everytime. I have tried using multiple email addresses. All are set to allow application access. None have 2 step verification active. I hit "test" probably 50 times. All fails. I did receive one test verification email, but due to lag I can't tell which test worked, although every one failed according to the DVR. And I have received zero emails notifying me of any alarms or motion. This has been extremely frustrating, and I have to say that the instruction manuals that came with the system are shockingly bad. Borderline worthless, to be honest.

I was having the same problem. No email notification no matter what changes I made to the settings. I even spoke to Amcrest Customer Support. He worked with me to change settings, but even he couldn't get it to work. He recommended that I reset everything and reinstall from scratch. If that didn't work he said that my camera might be defective. Well, it didn't work. Then I read whmmorejr's post and tried using Amcrest Surveillance Pro. It also allowed me to tweak other settings and the Test Email was succesful!
Surveillance Pro is a little bit of overkill for my one little camera, so I went back to Amcrest View and tried the test email again and it was succesful. I'm not sure what I did right, but I'm glad it now works.

I have tried diffenent combinations of smtp and ports with no luck. Is there something I need to do under another section of Networking? Do I need to adjust my router? Whenever I enter the email and smtp and hit "test" it says mail test error.
Assuming all your settings are correct, it is necessary to enter an email address in the Recipients box AND press the + button located to the right. This crucial step will add the test email address to the outgoing list below it. Without this last step the system won't know where to send the test email.

Log into the IP address of your camera
Type your camera's username and password
After logging in
Click upper right hand corner Setup
Click Network
Click SMTP (Email)

Where it says

Username
Password
Sender

The Sender has to be the same as the Username

That was the problem for me.

For example

Username: TypeYourFullEmailAddressHere@gmail.com
Password: TypeYourEmailPasswordHere
Sender: TypeYourFullEmailAddressHere@gmail.com

I found the solution on

https://support.amcrest.com/hc/en-us/ar ... -IP2M-841-

Try copy and paste your username into sender field. This worked for my Gmail and my domain website email as well. Both using SSL port 465

Also I couldn't get my gmail to work until I went to my google pref's and "generated" a new app specific password. I have 2 factor authentication turned on so that's what probably made it fail.
