IP2M-841 randomly reboots

Post by andis »

Hi

I have the IP2M-841 (black)
Software Version 2.420.AC00.15.R, build : 2016-09-08
WEB Version 3.2.1.377299
ONVIF Version 2.42

At first i noticed that the camera was restarting every day at 8:00am. But when checked the log files the reboot of the device was quite often as you can see from below.

When i upgraded to the latest firmware i did a hard-reset.

Can you please advice?

Thanks

Hello andis,

Not sure about the reason for these random reboots. Do you have the camera constantly recording to a NAS device or NVR? It can reboot upon failure to perform some tasks like sending email or recordings but if its too frequent it could be something with the device.

Hi Melvin

I have it to record , on motion detect, on NAS through FTP. I also setup a an email notification.

Should i hard reset and not setup a recording to see how things goes?

Thanks

Hello andis,

Please give that a try if you can and see how it goes.

Hi Melvin

I did a hard reset and only setup email notification. It's been 2 days and i have not seen in the log files any Reboot.

So writing to my NAS through FTP creates issues and causes camera to reboot? Is this a know issue or is it because of my NAS?

Thanks

Hello andis,

There is no such known issue but there seems to be some issue with the constant recording to the NAS. We had some other customers who reported this issue that was when the camera was constantly recording to NAS.

I actually have this problem as well, pretty much since I purchased 2 of these back in August. Other than that, they are great units. Frustrated, but had not yet taken the time to reach out to support.

Have two IP2M-841B's, both suffer from random reboots. Cameras both record to a Synology NAS, and both are configured for motion detection and are managed by the Synology. Reboots appear to be related to motion detection, more specifically extended periods of motion, but not always. One camera is connected via physical ethernet cable, one via wifi, have found no issues with either my wired or wireless networking. Both units were purchased running 2.420.AC00.11.R, build : 2016-01-06, upgraded one of them to 2.420.AC00.15.R, build : 2016-09-08 with no change in behavior. Tried a hard reset of the upgraded one, no change. Tried different resolution settings, no change. Tried disabling all unnecessary camera options. Installed SD cards on both of them to give them some local storage in addition to NAS, no change. Synology NAS has been through several software updates during this time, no change in behavior. Have tried various changes at the Synology as well, keep alive settings, detection source on NAS instead of camera, sensitivity, threshold, etc. I wish to use motion detection, not constant recording, but in the short time I have played with constant recording, I did not specifically encounter any reboots.

Please advise if you have any suggestions I have not tried. These reboots happen daily, sometimes multiple times a day depending on how much motion there is.

Any updates on this? I've been having the same issues for a few months now. Turning it NAS storage should not be a valid solution here. The reboots stop for me after NAS is turned off. Sounds like a firmware update is needed to get around this problem. I may see about changing the location of the camera and see if that fixes the issue but it seems as though the firmware is pretty sensitive to network hiccups (especially if the location that it's in doesn't have 100% quality wifi). Our Ring doorbell seems to be working fine in a similar location.

Hardware is great, software seems lacking.

any updates on the randomly reboots issue? I called support today and they said it had to do with the power supply not being fully plugged in and to check my connections. Not sure why that would be the explanation. I currently have this plugged into a heavy duty surge protector so I would think that would be an added insurance from power blips?

So it had been a while but finally got around to moving things around (my 2nd router is now closer to the camera) and so far I haven't noticed any issues. So this leads me to believe that it is related to the Wifi strength. If the network isn't reliable, the firmware is not able to handle it from what I can tell.
