I recently purchased a 4K B07Y412LYM (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y4 ... UTF8&psc=1)
I have added it to a NVR circa 2015 - AMNV40M8-4B-B
System info says its a NVR4000 'type' which I very well know isn't compatible with the current NV4000 series.
Is there any chance in heck I can get 4k quality out of a recording? Or am I better off running the new 4K remotely?
I cannot control resolutions above 2MP for the NVR on the 4K camera. What's even more funny is I cannot control the resolution at all with 4MP bullet cams that came with the NVR.
Any advice? Dump the NVR, pull the HDD and throw it in a new NVR? And if I upgrade, what NVR would y'all recommend?
Thanks in advance

Re: AMNV40M8-4B-B NVR 4K Compatibility
Well sadly if the camera isn't able to run in a 4mp format and the camera is only set like one of my older ones that only offers 12mp, 8mp and 1080p then your on the limit of the camera...
About buying a new NVR and what one I would buy.. Well with new things coming out all the time I would buy one of Amcrest AI NVR's if you have the cash for one!
Why?
Well not all cameras have to be AI to work with it.. Infact the NVR has about 3 functions that it can work with Legacy products like cameras you already own.. This is awesome to be honest even for the people that do have an AI camera because for me anyway I wouldn't want to buy a 200 camera or more costly and only use the function of Trip Wire however as I was saying that is one of the features that is in the NVR and can run on a non AI camera... So it will give you some options for use today and then later on when you get a NEW AI camera your already setup for it with a AI NVR...
Also it has support for 2 HDD and while I didn't look over the offerings I just loaded the first one and got the link for it.. They also have a non 8ch I am sure that will still be less money then this one if you only needed the 8ch..

Anyway I don't work for Amcrest and I don't get anything offering info about things.. This is what I would do if I was going to buy a new NVR today and that is because all my future buy cameras would be AI Tech so no since having the Tech Camera with out the Tech NVR to get the Full use out of the cameras... Start small work up...

Re: AMNV40M8-4B-B NVR 4K Compatibility
I'm going to reflash an old router with DDWRT then set up a wireless access point for the NVR and the 4K camera. 1080P NVR will host the 4MP bullet cam and I'll 'remote' the 4K camera into it to see if the resolution is garbage.
I'm assuming it will be. This NVR is pretty much trash. I know its from 2015, but I'm not too thrilled with the functionality of it. I'll definitely be shopping outside of Amcrest to see what's out there. At least I'll have some HDD's to salvage out of it.

Well I wish you luck...
The NVR you have is one kind of Pre Dates Amcrest as who they are today.. While it is from what I remember a Foscam Amcrest NVR that is 4MP able... I have loads of Recorders, Not all of them Amcrest however out of all the ones I have Amcrest is by far the best when it comes to Support.. Sadly I have a few items from Amcrest that no longer gets Updates and some of them 2017 since the last update.. It is what it is!... However I have other devices that I paid more for and GET NO updates and Tech Support is JUNK.. Have some others that are the same or worse.. However I know that if I call in about an issue with my 7204 CVI or 4108 NVR or one of my 751's all no longer current FW, I will still get support for them and they will go out of their way to try and make it work the best it can with what it is..
Not sure why you would come and ask someone for ideas of something to replace your current setup with if your "Definitely" going to shop else where?

I'm sorry if I came off inconsiderate. I'm frustrated with the NVR I bought (without much research). I really appreciate your feedback. You are right - Amcrest has definitely stepped up their game, especially since 2015.
I will investigate their newer NVR's. It's definitely worth the resolution bump and will enable me to utilize legacy and newer product.
