I recently installed 2 - IP8M-2496EW-40MM and I've run into a weird problem I haven't been able to solve yet. The cameras will only take motion detected snapshot in black/white mode. So essentially all night the cameras will take pics but when the sun comes up and they switch back to color mode no more snapshots.
I've checked all the schedules and they are set to take pics all day every day 24/7. The video recordings are fine. I have those set to record 24/7 no motion detect needed. I have all of the footage and pictures dumping to my computer via FTP.
Anyone have an idea as to what is the problem? Thanks

Interesting issue... Can you take a Screenshot of your Schedules for FTP and Motion... You accessing this over WebUI or some other app? Anything outside of Amcrest being used other then FTP?

Thanks for your response.
Nothing crazy in the mix. Just using WebUI for settings. FTP on Win10 PC. I run Amcrest Surveillance Pro just for Live VIew but don't touch any of the settings in that program.

Yes that is strange!
Sorry need some more info about your camera!
1 Is it new?
2 If you bought new or used the firmware that is on it did you install or was it on there already?
3 have you done a factory Reset of the Camera?
When you bought it was it from Amcrest Direct Ebay or Amazon? or another seller if new from another seller was it open box or sealed...
While things are hard to setup at times and it is easy to want to just do a Export and Import however problem with this if there is an issue with setup now it could come back in a import... So If you have not done a Factory Reset I would first try this... I am not sure about your Camera but every one I own besides like 2 have a Button for Reset on the device that is how you will want to do it.. Sadly the Factory Reset off the WebUI isn't as Complete as the Hardware Reset one...
Once you do a Factory Reset Set it back up and see if the issue goes away... that is how I have my FTP going to my Server as well... I guess the next question is to be fair and while this may seem dumb but is your Computer in SLEEP mode turning off HDD or just monitor if it is set to turn off HDD then it will not run FTP when it is sleeping?

Funny thing is I just looked at my Folders and wow lol... Camera time is set per the NVR and time shows right time but in FTP folders they are off a few hours starting at 8pm I never paid attention to that until now lol... Anyway.. All I care about is the footage being backed up.. I was sending to my Webserver FTP for a little while and it was off by a day so this is better then the whole day... Now I just FTP into my Webserver footage I want to keep longer offsite...

-New from Amazon (Amcrest direct seller)
-I updated the firmware to the newest version
-Factory reset through WebUI multiple times. And manually configured settings thereafter
-PC does not sleep
-Have not tried hardware reset as cameras are 20+ feet up and need the extension ladder to access.
I was thinking about rolling back to the previous firmware but maybe I'll try the hardware reset first. I'm not positive I saw a reset button on the camera though.
When I first got the cameras a couple weeks ago I think the snapshot was working during the day but at that time I had them hooked up to an Amcrest NVR. I really didn't like the UI of the NVR and it seemed to take snapshots whenever it wanted regardless of settings so I axed the NVR and went to FTP.

Yes understand about Factory Reset... Sadly at times it is needed and software one at times isn't enough... After a FW update it is said should be Hard Factory Reset...
For your camera there should be an access door taking out 2 screws I think this the the door for the MSD slot... There is a Button in that area that should say Reset.. While it isn't really a button but a plastic cutout with a button look from the part of the plastic cut if that made since...
Most times it is said under other issues a Software reset over WebUI might help if not then access to camera button would be next step... I have a camera that is setup like this if I can remember what one I will try and get a picture of what it should look like... Also maybe in Manual but most times Manuals are Generic for some and might cover many cameras and might not show reset info but may...

So far I think I found the problem. There is an issue when you set the snapshot quality setting to 6 (Best) it creates some problem with motion detection and its triggering of snapshots.
I was wrong in that motion triggered snapshots only worked in black/white. They did work in color however you have to literally be inches away from the camera for it to trigger snapshot. Even with sensitivity and threshold set to their most sensitive you would only get a color snapshot for object inches away. Possibly I was only getting snapshots in black/white mode because I have a lot of insects at night that fly close to the camera.
I reset snapshot settings to default which subsequently changes snapshot quality to 5 and every seems to be working properly. I'll update if anything changes.
I figured this out after getting the extension ladder out and climbing all the way up there for a manual reset. On the bright side it prompted me to power wash the house which was on my list of to-do's for a while lol.

I was having very similar problem. I have 3rd party software that requests a snapshot every 2 minutes. It saves these images and creates a timelapse at the end of the day. For some crazy reason, it would only capture images (both B&W and color) from midnight to mid morning, an then fail to capture any more images until late evening. After reading your post, I tried changing the picture quality from 5 to 4, and I now capture snapshots all day long. Thank you! I would never have figured that out myself.
