NV4108E-HS will not connect to IP3M-943 cameras - SOLVED

Post by Security_manager »

I've been using Amcrest cameras for several years, with Synology DiskStation Surveillance Station software quite successfully... I recently purchased an NV4018E-HS so I could capture continuous video, and am have a very frustrating issue, but only with the NVR, not the Synology client, and not with the Amcrest mobile app, which sees all my cameras perfectly. The Amcrest IP config tool also sees all the cameras fine. The NVR shows the IP3M-943 cameras as available, but when I add them, and edit the password field to connect to it, and it says "successfully operated", it never turns green.
Also, all except one camera are on WIRED network, including these.

I have tried the following to try to get this to work, and am at the end of my wits....
1. Set it to ONVIF, same result...
2. Updated the firmware on the Camera, same result except the name field could not be edited...
3. Updated the firmware on the NVR, same result...
4. Reset Default settings on camera, power cycled, same result...
5. Factory Reset camera, hunted up the DHCP IP address with the IP config tool, changed the default password, tried re-adding camera again in NVR, same result...
6. Changed to Static IP on newly Factory Reset camera, tried adding again in NVR, same result...
7. Downloaded earlier firmware for camera that didn't have the naming bug, flashed it, Reset Default, Factory reset, power cycled, re-added the camera in NVR (which always "sees" the camera, but will not operate it), same result.

Sorry for the Wall of Text, but I wanted to be clear that I really tried everything, I believe the NVR is not compatible with the IP3M-943 cameras, am I missing something? The Android Amcrest View Pro sees these cameras perfectly. Any help would be appreciated.

It really sounds like you have tried most everything.
You could copy and send your entire post above to support@amcrest.com and see what response you get.
Also, if feasible, you could try connecting the camera cable directly to the NVR to see if it works. That would normally work with the NVR and Amcrest mobile app but probably not Synology. If wireless works at the camera location, you could enable wireless in the camera and have both active wired and wireless IP addresses which should make Synology camera access work using the wireless IP.
Or just get different cameras...

thanks jack7, I actually did try both wireless and wired, simultaneously and individually, in all cases the Synology DiskStation and the Amcrest Pro View app sees and connects to and can view and record video, and the NV4108E-HS will not, in any version of configuration.
I just sent all this to support@amcrest.com, wish me luck! I'll post the solution if one presents.

OK,
I just figured this out. Everything was pointing to this being a problem with the NVR, since every other device
was working perfectly with these cameras. So I tried one more step; I removed the 2 cameras from the NVR, logged back into my cameras and re-set the Static IP address back to what I wanted them to be (they are numbered so I can mentally remember which one is which) and then I did a manual reboot of the NVR, hoping this would flush something persistent in the NVR…guess what?
After the NVR booted back up, I searched devices again, there they were with the original IP addresses, added them, edited the password field, hit connect, and save, and voila! They did indeed connect. SOMETHING in the NVR was persistent regarding these 2 cameras.
