Amcrest Android App No Longer Connects To Cameras Remotely (Outside of Home Network)

Post by emanresu1 »

I have DDNS and port forwarding set up and have been able to access both of my Amcrest IP2M-841 cameras remotely for over 6 months.

Recently I upgraded the firmware on both cameras to:
2.520.AC00.18.R, Build Date: 2017-06-29
2.420.AC00.18.R, Build Date: 2017-05-21

Now the Android Amcrest app can no longer load my cameras remotely. I receive a "Failed to Connect" error.

Here is the fun part. I can use the Tinycam Monitor android app and other android IP Cam viewers to connect and view my Amcrest cameras remotely outside of home network without issue.

Another interesting piece is that the Amcrest android app will allow me to successfully configure and enable/disable push notifications remotely even though it can't load the video feed.

What has changed to cause this issue? It's not my DDNS or port forwarding because I can access the WEB UI externally and am able to load video feed from other Android 3rd party IP Cam viewers.

And yes if I use the local static addresses of the cameras while I'm on my home network the app loads the video feeds fine. Something must have changed with the port requirements on the amcrest firmware side.

Thank you to anyone who can provide assistance.

To help, below is what I am port forwarding and with these settings my cameras are externally available/accessible:

Camera 1 | Port Range 17779 | Local IP 192.168.0.104 | Local Port 17779 | TCP
Camera 1 | Port Range 7002 | Local IP 192.168.0.104 | Local Port 7002| RTSP

Camera 2 | Port Range 16669 | Local IP 192.168.0.105 | Local Port 16669 | TCP
Camera 2 | Port Range 554 | Local IP 192.168.0.105 | Local Port 554| RTSP

Amcrest phone support tells me to hard reset my amcrest cameras... Wonderful troubleshooting.
