IP8M-2496EB-28MM and POE Injectors

Post by FiveOneFive »

Hey

I have my IP8M-2496EB-28MM connect to a BV-TECH SW501G POE Switch (802.3at/30w) and it is working fine.

I wanted to free up some space so purchased two Ubuiti POE Injectors GP A240 050 and GP A240 050 G (non-gigabit version and gigabit version). POE 24 - 12W. However neither of these work with the camera. I plug them in, and I cannot ping the camera and it stays disconnected. The run of cable to the camera is about 15m. Output on back says DC 24V 0.5A

What am I doing wrong? Are these incompatible?

There is a few things that might be wrong..

First I think if the POE is only 24 12w I think it is the issue that the camera is 12v 6.5w.. However some injectors are Multi Volt systems and some are only xyz where the camera is looking for ABC type that can give it 12v and 6.5w

Other then this your BV-Tech looks like it might be a POE+ Switch that works with high power and low power but provides loads of current to the current Hungary devices if you have other cameras in your system that can work with the Injectors I would maybe swap them out and put the Amcrest back on the Switch until you find another solution.

Your camera uses the POE standard 48V 802.3af. It will not work with a 24V injector. Get a 802.3af POE Injector.

Yeah what Jack said. Hate it when someone makes me stop what I was doing while writing and then loose my train of thought..

Anyway was on the ABC got called away from the writing and when I came back had the 12vdc numbers in my head an not the POE voltage.. When I returned to write I had to finish the reply and didn't proof read it as I was being rushed to do something else but wanted to post my reply..

Thanks for the replies.

So provided the Injector conforms to the 802.3af standard, I won't have any issues, or need to know of any other things to look for?

To be honest that while it may work I am going to guess that from the wording that it was really made for their devices and would not be subject to power issues of CCTV cameras or other devices outside their own..

The cost of that device cost more then Amcrest POE injector while would you not want to just buy the FSE801 that not only will work but also has the ability to go a longer distance then other POE injectors.. Amcrest device is only around 25ish usd and would be much better for the cameras use..
