I've decided to also use the camera's recording capability of this camera (in addition to my Blue Iris recording) and inserted a 64gb SD card for local recording.
I've used quite a few camera GUI recordings before, notably Dahua's, but this one has me stumped as to why it's recording all the time when there is no motion. Not sure what other setting to check, can someone take a look and give me some ideas?
Also, when I use the playback it shows the yellow bar at the bottom for previous hours but doesn't include the current 30 minute segment (for example if it's 4:15, it shows yellow bars up to 4pm, but then after 4:30, it shows yellow bars up to 4:30). That doesn't make sense to me either.
Would appreciate some tips to try. I've got the detection area fully highlighted with region 1, threshold 5% and sensitiviy 70%. There are times when something should trigger it (bird, cat, etc.) but not continuously.
IP2M-858W always recording, why?
Re: IP2M-858W always recording, why?
Hello and Welcome to the Forum
I am going to guess that while you might have Motion setup in the page your Showing that you also have Regular setup in the MSD area under Storage.. So if in that area you have it setup to record both full aka Regular and motion and alarm then it will constant record.. Also at times if your looking at your recordings and you have your system setup to Record 15min or 10min or if you changed it past the 8 min that it came setup as then there would be no recording for that area until it has finished so when you click to see something that happened 4 min ago and it isn't listed in the list of files I am going to guess that the system has it setup to record finish and then it will be able to playback.. Also don't forget things that you set in BI can change things that you think you have set in the camera and at times will change from WebUI can make the change in BI as well..

Re: IP2M-858W always recording, why?
Revo2Maxx, I am looking under storage and I am not familiar with the settings here. Included a screenshot, maybe someone else can tell me if it's set to continue recording here. By the time there is an answer, I may have found it through searching though.
Well, I'm not able to screen shot, but settings are:
pack duration 30min, pre-event record 5 sec, disk full-overwrite, record mode: auto, record stream: main stream

Re: IP2M-858W always recording, why?
Totally not understanding the record mode options, auto/manual/off.
I tried off, but no motion records. Period, even a human right in front of the camera.
Earlier, before this post, it was on auto and pack duration was 30 minutes, thus the long record times.
Not sure what to set this to, this is different settings than I'm used to with hikvision & dahua cams.
Amcrest's documentation is poor, doesn't explain a lot of settings in any detail.

You seem rather impatient. You say you are familiar with Dahua Web UI settings. Amcrest Web UI is about the same except for IVS feature. Dahua is where the 858 firmware came from.marklyn wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 6:57 pm Totally not understanding the record mode options, auto/manual/off.

There are Amcrest docs and videos. You may not have looked much for them. Start with the Help Center icon on Web UI(from Dahua in China), and the 858 user guide you should have.
Here's the 858 record schedule you couldn't find, but I doubt you are recording green General 24/7 records because you said you saw yellow lines in Replay timeline.
What Amcrest firmware version are you using on 858? What does the Web UI look like? Did you load a plugin or is it new Java based firmware? I could provide more info on 858 settings after you study it a bit more.
Re: IP2M-858W always recording, why?
Your response makes me think I'm upset with someone. I'm not, I'm frustrated and fairly well versed in other camera's firmware but admittedly not as much with Amcrest fw. Yes, I'm familiar with the Dahua/Amcrest connection. I've gone through the 858 guide numerous times and done a very reasonable amount of web searches. Looked through quite a few YT videos, of which 99% have still not answered my questions. And yes I'm perturbed that instead of offering me help or advice, you only offered me the last 3 sentences (21 words) of help/questions, yet you spent 111 words chastising me and implying I haven't done enough. I'd kindly ask that you refrain from a response, helpful or otherwise.
Re: IP2M-858W always recording, why?
Sorry I was away from the computer.. Sorry when you said that you had worked with Dahua products I thought it was understood where the Recording area was and the schedules as Jack7 was nice enough to provide a picture of...
However another thing you can do if you don't want to have a multi Schedule is Remove it out of the line up for the Recording and Snapshots for the MSD Doing so will only let the system record as you asked either pure motion or motion and alarm if you have them set and the full meal deal setting up a Schedule like I do for some of my cameras where I have them recording Motion at xy to z and Full recording from ab and c... SO I use the top for Motion and Schedule however if I only wanted to use the Schedule I would pick just that and the Alarms because I do have some connected for some of my cameras...
Setting the top like I have mine gets a full day of motion however I have another camera that I have setup as Schedule only and get motion when it happens in the times I set and Full Record on the other times
However beyond that if you are only seeing Yellow only and no Green then you are on motion only and need to adjust your setting so you only get motion when you want them I at one point was getting a full day of just 24/7 motion recordings because my camera was picking up things all the time... If it wasn't snow it was rain if not rain it was dew as it is very humid here.. Bugs and clouds and anything... I did a Factory Reset on the camera and set things back up one at a time set my grid for just the area that matters and now things work much better.. Was a day when only had 3 motion I had to go look over my NVR because it seemed to few however it was a very slow day...
Now for my Setup some are complex some are just easy as Motion and Grid no email no ptz and some not even snap shots but for this one I have it set like this picture if your times are low you can do some of these numbers for 2 min of record time per event and don't worry about the Alarm if your not using one...

Re: IP2M-858W always recording, why?
Revo2Maxx, thanks for your help. As expected, your settings to capture motion are the same way mine are set, except I don't use alarm so it's not included in any trigger or schedule settings. I'm perplexed by why it continues to record. I found a couple other posts with setting I have set up the same way as well. I think I spent 10 minutes with my Dahua and Hikvision cameras to tweak motion settings but Amcrest seems to be another beast. I must be missing something simple. Please take a look at my settings and see if it's something obvious I'm missing. (not sure why first one is shown 3 times) I only want to capture motion with 5 second pre-record and 10 seconds after motion stops, no snapshots, no alarm triggers.
I'm just using Region 1, full screen.

Re: IP2M-858W always recording, why?
On a side note, I have been looking closely at the threshold/sensitivity for the detection area. Even if I point the camera at a tree that is moving in a brisk wind there is very little detection (blocks highlighted) and the graph to represent movement never shows anything at all. So, sensitivity at 100% should, in my mind, be really lighting up the blocks, but it takes the full tree moving (1/3 of screen) to kick up some threshold activity above level 4.
In contrast, my Blue Iris triggers are going nuts for the same scene. It's as if the Amcrest motion detect is extremely diluted.

Re: IP2M-858W always recording, why?
It appears that by turning off everything except motion detect (in above screen shots) seems to have stopped the continuous recording. If that's the case I'm not understanding the logic in that but I'll save that thought for another day. At the moment, I've got motion detect threshold set to 1 and sensitivity to 100. It seems to take far more movement to trigger, like I mentioned above, it is as if the motion detect sensitivity is diluted.
